Cool down by making these own freezable treats at home with £1 Poundland mould
There is no easier way to save your lolly . . . .
HEALTHY TREAT: Fruit juice lollies are an easy way to ensure everyone gets one of their five a day. Use cartons of sweet juices, such as apple or passionfruit (79p for 1L at Aldi), and mix before pouring into your mould.
Another option is to create smoothies from your favourite fruit and layer to create rainbow lollies.
For example, blend mango in one pot and strawberries in another.
Then pour one in the mould and freeze. Add the next layer in an hour for a treat that will look store-bought.
BOOZY BEHAVIOUR: Try the easy gin & tonic lolly recipe from bbcgoodfood.com.
It needs 75ml gin, 250ml tonic and 50g caster sugar. Or Jamie Oliver’s Pina Colada lollies (main ingredients are rum, a tin of coconut cream and honey).
Or try the bourbonandhoney.com Aperol Spritz lolly.
Use the same ingredients as for the cocktail (Aperol, Prosecco and soda) and two cups of lemonade. Pour into moulds and freeze.
FAMILY FAVES: Create your own version of big brand lollies with some easy tricks. For orange Tango lollies, mix up a strong batch of squash (Tesco sells 1.5L of double-strength orange squash for £1) and freeze in moulds.
For Fab lollies, follow the recipe at elizabethskitchendiary.co.uk. It needs coconut milk and blended strawberries, with chocs and sprinkles.
Mini milks? Mix milk with Asda’s strawberry milkshake mix, £1.65, and freeze.
SUPERMARKET SAVERS: If there’s no time to make your own, Iceland has an amazing selection, including Bubble-gum Swirl and Galaxy lollies, £1 for six.
Waitrose sells three Pops Bellini (Prosecco & peach) lollies for £3.75p.
At Lidl, you can get five Gelatelli Tropical fruit spiral lollies for 85p.
