CHEAP SCRUB: Most of us have sugar and oil knocking around in the cupboard, which is all you need to create a basic body scrub.

Granulated sugar is typically best, but other varieties will also work. Mix with a carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut, jojoba, grapeseed or almond oil in equal measure.

Then get creative, by adding a couple of drops of essential oils.
Holland and Barrett currently has buy one, get one half price on select essential oils.

Try a couple of drops of lavender for a relaxing mix, or add eucalyptus — the scent of many top spa products — for a touch of luxury.

You can also mix in lemon or lime zest and juice to create a scrub that’s uplifting and smells delicious.

As there are no preservatives, it’s always best to create small amounts and use immediately.

FACE FACTS: For an easy moisturising face mask that will leave skin glowing, mash-up avocado, which is full of hydrating oil.

Then mix with honey, which is thought to calm inflammation and has antiseptic properties.

Oats have soothing properties for the skin and can be added to the mix as an optional extra.

Pop the mixture on skin and leave for ten minutes before washing off thoroughly.

SALT AND SOAK: Making your own bath salts is simple and cheaper than buying from brands. Start with Epsom salts — Sainsbury’s has Westlab bath salt on offer at £2.75.

Then add in an equal measure of dead sea bath salt. Holland and Barrett has Westlab dead sea salt down to £2.75 in its sale.

From here, you can add a couple of drops of essential oils, depending on your preference.

Root around in the garden for extra ingredients. Dried lavender or rose petals are perfect additions.

If you mix up a batch, keep it an airtight jar.

Hobbycraft has a pack of six clear jars down from £6.50 to £5.
