Five tips to make the most of nature during the summer holiday

KIDS getting under your feet? Get them out with the birds, bees and mini beasts.

With four weeks of the summer holiday still to run, there’s plenty of time to enjoy nature.

Get kids outside to enjoy the birds, bees and mini beasts

Run wild with these ideas for getting close to the great outdoors . . .

EXPERT EYE: Get a bit of expert know-how by joining an organised nature watch.

Take a look at wildlifetrusts.org for great days out including guided rock-pooling in Kent or a butterfly trail in Northants.

Also look at the “Things to do” page at woodlandtrust.org.uk.

SERIOUS SCAVENGING: Make amazing nature discoveries with an easy scavenger hunt that can be adapted for different ages and seasons.

Shake things up by going on a sensory hunt, tasking kids to find something spiky, tickly, soft or rough, or make it a colour hunt where they have to search for an item from the different colours of the rainbow.

PARK LIFE: Exploring your local park can be the start of great outdoor adventures. Make it your mission to explore all the green spaces close to your home.

Londoners can visit goparks.london, which maps more than 4,000 green spaces in the capital.

JOIN TOGETHER: A community gardens movement is sweeping the UK, with thousands of people joining together to benefit their local area.

Check out goodtogrow.org to learn about projects where the whole family can get stuck in and dig up some fresh food at the same time.

FOOT WORK: Get the kids on board for a family walk, with some inspiring routes from Go Jauntly.

Download the free app and search your local area for routes that will be a shoo-in with all ages.
