Best deals and offers to put together a Spanish-style feast at home
Here’s how you can enjoy Spain’s finest dishes at a great price . . .
TIME FOR TAPAS: Do it like the Spanish and create a spread of small plates to enjoy with an after-work drink or combined to make a full meal.
A pot of Asda’s Pimento olives with Iberico cheese is on rollback, down from £2 to £1.50, while Sainsbury’s sharing tapas platter is down from £3.50 to £3. Tesco Clubcard customers can get two tapas for £4.50. Options include tortilla, cured meats and olives.
Morrisons has spicy chorizo at an offer price of £1 and Aldi’s The Deli Spanish meats and cheese selection is £1.69.
RICE AND EASY: For a delicious sharing Spanish meal, cook an easy prawn paella. Sainsbury’s has a simple recipe as part of its “feed your family for a fiver” offer, with all ingredients needed for a four-person portion coming in at £5.22. See bit.ly/3ukJ10e for cooking instructions.
WINE DOWN: Wash down your feast with sangria. First, you need a bottle of light red wine. Aldi sells Baron Saint Jean Rouge for £3.29 or a bottle of Shiraz for £3.79.
Next, chop orange, lemons and any other fruit you may have laying around — strawberries, pears and apples all work. Sprinkle the fruit with two or three tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon.
Tip the wine into a jug with ice and add the fruit.
Add around 100ml of Spanish brandy — Soberano 5 Brandy Reserva is down to £13.50 from £15 at Asda. Top up with 300ml of sparkling water.
EAT OUT OPTION: If you don’t fancy spending time in the kitchen, head out to Tapas Revolution and sign up to the restaurant chain’s mailing list for a free glass of sangria. Paellas start from £12.95 and tapas from £5.50.
