THE price of petrol has dropped by nearly 3p per litre – and drivers could see the cost of their tank drop by £10 within two weeks, the AA has claimed.
Average pump prices are down to 188.76p a litre for petrol and 196.96p a litre for diesel.

That’s compared to last month, when petrol was costing a record high of 191.53p a litre (July 3) and diesel was at 199.07p a litre (July 1).
However, wholesale petrol prices that had peaked above £1 a litre on June 1 fell to below 80p a litre for much of last week.
The AA said this latest change could see the cost of a tank drop by £10 within a fortnight.
But Luke Bosdet, the AA’s fuel price spokesman, said the predicted savings would only come “providing the fuel trade is prepared to pass them on”.
He said: “The problem is that, in many places, the price cuts are quite simply not happening despite more than six weeks of falling costs.
“Roads may suffer extreme heat today and tomorrow but pump prices should have cooled off much more significantly by now.”
Fuel prices have been rising in recent months partly due to the war in Ukraine.
But they have also been rising steadily as coronavirus restrictions across the world have opened up and the demand for energy has increased.
That’s because the price for crude oil used to make petrol and diesel has gone up.
Some stations have been reducing their prices and seeing mile-long queues stack up as a consequence.

You don’t have to drive around hoping to find cheap petrol – there are ways to find your nearest cheapest station.
There are a number of websites that let you check where to go to fill up your tank.
Fleet News and Allstar lets you check petrol prices across the counties so you can see how your area compares to the UK average.
On the PetrolPrices app and website, you can check prices from over 8,000 forecourts near you.
And comparison website Confused.com has a petrol prices checker where you can see prices within a five, 10 or 25mile radius if you’re a registered driver.
The AA app can also come in handy.
For those in Northern Ireland, you can use the Consumer Council website as well.
