Fuel prices near me: UK’s cheapest petrol and diesel and how to check

The RAC’s latest figures reveal the average price for a litre of unleaded petrol is 162.59p and 180.25p for diesel.

Compared to last year, prices are roughly 30p more expensive per litre of fuel.

It means the pressure is on for motorists to find cheap diesel and unleaded – but there are ways to find the best prices.

You can always shop around to find the best price nearby.

You can get get deals at supermarkets as well.

Brands such as Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons look to tempt drivers to fill up as they shop.

For example, Morrisons is offering customers 5p off every litre of unleaded or diesel if they spend £40 in store until Sunday.

Where to find UK’s cheapest petrol and diesel?

The easiest way to find the cheapest forecourt in your area for fuel is by using price comparison sites.

Websites like Petrolprices.com will list the cheapest filling stations in your area.

You need to register with the site, enter your postcode and tell it how far you’re willing to travel for fuel (up to 20 miles) and what fuel type you’re after.

We checked on Petrolprices.com to find out where the cheapest fuel was across a number of locations on October 5.

The prices we found were at petrol stations within a three-mile radius of the specific location.

Croydon

The cheapest litre of unleaded petrol we found within three miles of Croydon was at Sainsbury’s petrol station in Crystal Palace where it was 156.9p per litre.

The cheapest litre of diesel was at the same petrol station, where it was 176.9p a litre.


Leicester

The cheapest litre of unleaded petrol in Leicester was at St Matthew Service Station, where it cost 158.8p per litre.

The cheapest litre of diesel, meanwhile, was at Asda in Abbey Lane. There it was 176.7p a litre.

Waltham Forest

The cheapest litre of unleaded petrol in Waltham Forest was at a Jet garage in Hollybush Hill (Greenman Service Station) where it was 156.9p.

The cheapest litre of diesel was at an Esso garage in Lea Bridge Road, where it was 179.9p a litre.

Brighton

The cheapest litre of unleaded petrol in Brighton was at an Esso petrol station in Ditchling Road, where it was 159.9p a litre.

For the cheapest litre of diesel, you would have to go to the Asda petrol station on Brighton Marina where it was 179.9p a litre.

Brent

In Brent, London, the cheapest litre of petrol we could find was at a Sainsbury’s petrol station in Canal Way, where it was 156.9p a litre.

The cheapest litre of diesel was at an Asda petrol station in Forty Lane, where it was 179.7p.

How to check fuel prices near me?

Beyond using Petrolprices.com, there are other websites you can use to check the cost of fuel in your area.

Fleet News and Allstar also lets you to check petrol prices across the counties so you can see how your region compares to the UK average.

Comparison website Confused.com also has a petrol prices checker that lets registered users find petrol prices within a five, ten or 25mile radius.

Petrolprices.com is useful, but it does only give you limited amounts of searches each day, whereas Confused.com doesn’t.
