The latest MoneySavingExpert newsletter explains how you can save on streaming while being able to watch hours worth of movies and TV shows.

The MoneySavingExpert team said: “A majority of households in the UK have at least one TV streaming service.

“So we’ve tricks to help you watch what you want as cheaply as possible, whether you’re new to streaming, or you’ve all the channels and want to cut back.”

Martin’s team lists five top tricks to cut your streaming costs as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.

Take advantage of free trials

Many streaming services offer free trials providing up to 30 days of free content.

For example, Amazon Prime Video gives 30 days before you have to start paying £7.99 a month.

Apple TV and Paramount+ over seven days worth of free streaming before you have to pay £4.99 for the former and £6.99 a month for the latter.

However, Now, Netflix and Disney+ don’t offer customers free trials right now.

The MoneySavingExpert team said: “To max it, hop from free trial to free trial, but always remember to cancel before you’re charged if you don’t want to keep it.”

You don’t always need to pay to stream

It’s important to remember that you don’t always need to pay to watch movies and TV shows online.

Households can watch hundreds of hours worth of boxsets and movies for free on BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5.

Subscribe to a new service and take another service out

The MoneySavingExpert team said: “If you do need to pay to stream, do the streaming “hokey cokey” – this is where you put one service in and take one service out.”

There’s no need to pay more than £8 every month to watch shows on Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix.

Stick to one streaming platform at a time to save in the long-term.

Save hundreds with these three tips

If you’re a Tesco Clubcard holder you can save on a Disney+ subscription.

With £8 of Clubcard vouchers you can get a three month subscription to Disney+.

If you use Amazon Prime Video but not the Prime delivery service cut costs by £2 and pay for a video-only membership for £5.99 instead of a full Prime membership.

Those with subscriptions to Netflix could also save up to £108 a year by taking out a basic package, according to MoneySavingExpert.

Other ways to save

MoneySavingExpert also recommends that customers think about paying annually to cut streaming costs in the long-term.

It’s also worth assessing whether or not you need to pay for a TV licence if you only watch content on streaming platforms.

The top tips come only months ahead of ITV launching a new streaming service to rival Netflix and Amazon Prime.

We’ve also listed the eight best streaming services you can get this year.
