We share easy lunch ideas to keep littles ones fed for less while out and about
SANDWICH SAVIOURS: Ready-made fillers for sarnies are great for busy parents.
Asda’s range is currently two for £3, including tuna and sweetcorn and egg mayonnaise. The supermarket also has two for £3 on cooked meats, such as select packs of ham, turkey and corned beef.
SNACK SWAPS: Organix oaty bars are always a hit with children and perfect for lunchboxes. But at around £2.60 a packet, they are not cheap. Aldi’s Mamia Organic oaty bars go down just as well and, at £1.69 a pack, are a little more palatable on the bank balance.
The store’s Mamia range also has packs of carrot puffs at 45p, which are a budget alternative to the Organix versions typically priced at around 70p.
Frubes yoghurt tubes are another favourite, around £2 for a box of nine. But Aldi’s Brooklea Tube Its are just as tasty and come in at 99p for the same quantity.
FRUIT ’N’ VEG: It’s easy to pack in one or two of the kids’ five-a-day when on the go. Try a big pack of carrot batons, 59p from Asda, plus 69p for a tub of houmous. Asda also has three for £1 on small packs of fruit and vegetables, including mini red peppers, cucumber batons and apple slices.
Alternatively, Aldi’s Nature’s Pick apple or grape snack packs are 33p each.
THIRST QUENCHER: The cheapest, easiest and healthiest option is tap water in a reusable bottle.
Metal tends to be more durable than plastic and Sainsbury’s has 25 per cent off select bottles, including a Jurassic World stainless steel option now £6.37, down from £8.50.
Aldi’s Sun Quench fruity blasts, £1.39 for eight, are a great and cheaper alternative to Fruit Shoots, which are usually around £3 for a box of the same size.
