ICELAND will close ALL of its stores on Boxing Day to give workers a “well earned rest”.
The supermarket’s managing director, Richard Walker, said all Iceland and Food Warehouse stores would not open on December 26.
Iceland stores won’t open on Boxing Day
Usually, most supermarkets and shops open on Boxing Day so shoppers can stock up on supplies over the festive period.
But Mr Walker announced on Twitter that this would not be the case for Iceland, which has around 500 branches as well as over 150 Food Warehouse stores in the UK.
He announced on Twitter: “We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families.”
Shoppers will get plenty of time to cram in their Christmas shopping in the run-up to the big day this year though.
Last year, a number of supermarkets remained shut over the Christmas break to say thanks to workers.
M&S, Morrisons and Wilko and closed all stores on Boxing Day.
Poundland, The Entertainer and Home Bargains shut stores as well so workers could enjoy the Boxing Day holiday.
We’ve asked Iceland whether staff will be paid for the day off, and we will update this story when we know more.

It’s not the first time Iceland closed for a public holiday this year.
It closed all of its stores as a mark of respect for the Queen’s funeral on September 19.
